Danara Awarded an ESCMID Grant

Huge congratulations to Danara Flores from the OHMEL Lab - One Health Institute and Institute of Evolutionary Medicine

Danara has been awarded the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID) Research Grant 2026 (20,000 euros) to develop a urine-based diagnostic test for leprosy patients.

This is Danara's first grant and a big step towards accessible and non-invasive diagnostics for patients . So proud of you Danara, well deserved!

Avanzi Opens the One Health and Microbial Evolution Lab (OHMEL) at University of Zurich

Charlotte Avanzi was appointed as an Associate Professor at the University of Zurich (UZH), opening the One Health and Microbial Evolution Lab. She holds dual appointments in the newly formed One Health Institute at UZH, as well as in the Institute for Evolutionary Medicine.

The One Health and Microbial Evolution Lab will continue the groundbreaking work of enhancing diagnostics, treatments, and mechanistic understandings that drive Leprosy disease globally.
